Cactus Capture

Millennials and Gen-Z are both big on the environment, from recycling and reusing to protesting aginst plastic usage, we have been doing our best to make a positive impact on the environment.  However, some people try to care for the part of the environment that is still doing well, like plant lovers! And if you're one of these people, or wanna be one but you're afraid of the responsibility or whatnot, this blog is for you!

Cacti! One of the plants that some may think is a bit 'rough' but is actually one of the best home-plants. Though, if you don't believe me, maybe you'll prefer listening to a person with much more knowledge and background about them.

Meet Abdalrhman, a 20 y/o architecture student ‪from 6 October‬ City, and also the founder of Cactus Capture, a one-man business found on Instagram under the username @cacti.egypt that designs and sells cacti and pots.

The origin of the account was for Abdalrhman to share his love for cacti only until someone asked if he sells them, he liked the idea and thought 'why not?' and from there started Cactus Capture; he wanted to spread the culture of cacti in the Egyptian households as it's not that common here to have a cactus in your home.

Abdalrhman started designing pots due to the unavailability of tiny pots when he needed them for his tiny cacti. When asked about how he felt after designing his first pot he said,
"I was super happy when I was able to design my first pot, it wasn't perfect, but I was so proud of being able to create something new!"
As for selling his first cactus, he told us that being productive and selling one's own work is the most satisfying feeling he has ever felt.

Nevertheless, starting up his business in Egypt was no walk in the park; 3 years ago Abdalrhman knew nothing about cacti, but so does the majority of the Egyptian population, and so he needed to promote Cactus Capture for a long time just so that people would know that his product even exists! Still, most of the customers are females between the ages of 20 to 35 which limits his reach even though most people support and really like his venture idea, believing it to be an innovative aesthetic with a creative touch to it.

And if you're still afraid of buying a cactus, Abdalrhman tells you to fear not, cacti are super cute plants that come in various shapes and sizes, they don't really need any special care whatsoever, all you have to do is water your cactus once a week and place it near an indirect source of sunlight!

When asked about what he has to say to people who wanna start up businesses where they sell plants, he said,
"Plants, in general, are one of the leading businesses if you have the knowhow with the artistic touch that gives a creative appearance to your product, at this point your business will turn into a hobby. The second step will be picking a good space -or platform- to attract customers who are interested in your product."

Abdalrhman's interest in cacti began when he showed his friend the new plant he bought, not knowing that it was a cactus until his friend told him so, he googled it and found out that, not only was his friend right, but also that cacti are the most beautiful plants ever, and his love for them bloomed in what we know now as Cactus Capture.
