What They Never Tell You About Heartbreaks

The phrase I've heard the most when I got my heart broken was: "Time will heal you" or "Time will make it easier".

I have never believed it. And here I am, 3 years later, to tell you what they never tell you about heartbreaks.

It's going to be way worse than you can even imagine. You will feel the sadness choking you every night when you're trying to sleep. You'll feel your heart aching. You'll hate getting out of bed. You'll think about them when you meet someone with their name. You'll think about them when you are in their favourite restaurant, when someone sounds like them, laughs like them or even use the same expressions as them. You'll feel the pain when you want to use your inside jokes but you know no one will get them. You'll hurt when you get a new haircut and you'd like to show them. Or when you can't sleep at 3 am because you can't think about anything but calling them. Years will pass and you'll still think about them every now and then. But what I found very painful is that time will never heal you. Time will never erase your memories. Time will never make it better. You will think about them less. But it will never just stop. You can't "unlove" someone.

What they never tell you about heartbreaks is that heart wounds never heal; you just ignore them. Maybe when you were reading this, you thought about them. I'm sorry if I reminded you, I'm sorry if you were having a good day, but all you need is the truth to truly move on. Go listen to your favourite song, go get a piece of paper, write them a letter. Then burn it. Don't go, just stand in front of it and watch it burn. Know with every piece of your heart that you'll find someone that will make you happy, but you'll never find someone like them. So what they never tell you about heartbreaks is that there will always be a missing piece in your heart and that all you can do is ignore it; because no one will ever fit in it but them.

Sometimes what you need the most, hurts the most.
