the blind date show: a misogyny lesson

“enti tekhena wala rofay3a?”

You just clicked on this post, read the first line and now you’re repulsed, right? Well, that’s exactly how actress Dalia Shawky felt when this was the first question directed towards her on the blind date show.

I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen a lot of posts talking about this issue, but what’s surprising is how most of these posts praise the man just because they think Dalia is ‘mostafeza’. Pardon me ladies and gentlemen, but how would you react when your date doesn’t care about anything other than how you look and if you’ll cook at home while taking care of the kids? How would you feel if a misogynistic man erases your entire personality just because he’s ‘raglek’ so what else do you want from life?

How would you feel when he keeps dismissing your opinions and feelings, trying to enforce his beliefs and toxic masculinity on you? Oh, wait did you tell him that he upset you? Well, his response was laughing at your discomfort. While you’re trying to ask your date important questions to get to know him, he’s trying to crush you and shine more light on how misogynistic and toxic he is.

Did you imagine this scenario? It feels disgusting, doesn’t it? Well, that’s how miss Dalia Shawky felt. Instead of tearing another woman just because you don’t like the way she talks, put yourself in her shoes and see how you’d react to a man who keeps asking about your weight and height. Not only this, but telling you that it's your role to cook, clean and take care of the babies; however, if you want something don’t worry he’ll buy it for you. Why? Because he’s your man, and that’s more important than you having a life outside of home, right?

This blind date show episode just shone light on the misogyny and toxic masculinity that exists in our society. This was only an example of what many women face every day. You all talk about red flags and how women should avoid them, but when a woman stands up for herself you call her annoying?

Women of this society say they have each other's back but when a fellow woman stands up for misogyny they thrash her? Maybe it’s time for some of you to drop the hypocrisy.
