Emotional Pain (Resistance Vs Acceptance)

The more you resist the pain,
the longer it stays!

We all go through traumas every once in a while, some bigger than others, some are more painful than others, some last longer than expected. Sometimes it even feels like the end is near. Other times it might feel like it's just another Tuesday! Whenever we feel pain, we tend to resist it. This resistance results in the pain lasting longer than it should have. The dilemma of fighting against the reality of the pain in your life creates suffering. We can be very critical of our own emotions! We need to feel good all the time and so we get very critical when we feel otherwise.

ACCEPT FIRST, CRITICIZE LATER

“Whatever the present moment contains,
accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it.”

Accepting reality is what should be done instead of criticizing your own feelings and situations that you have no control over. Facing your problems is how you'll get closer to solving them. Break down overwhelming problems into pieces to make them easier to accept and deal with.

OBSERVE YOUR THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS

Coping starts with getting comfortable with the idea that you're in pain and you need to take care of yourself. When you observe your thoughts and feelings, you get to address the real problem so then you can learn how to fix it or at least deal with it better.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS

Being around people who judge you for being hurt is an energy drainer. Choose who you spend your time with, choose who you open up to and if you need to talk about your trauma it's always better to speak to a professional rather than a friend!

FOCUS ON THE PRESENT MOMENT

Now, this is a tough one! putting all your energy on the present moment can be really challenging. We need to think less about what could happen in the future and think more about what is happening right now!

YOUR PAIN DOES NOT DEFINE YOU!

We are not our pain. We're a whole, pain is just a part. You still got all of the qualities that make you who you are, you didn't lose anything even though I know it might feel like you did, but you didn't! Labeling yourself according to how you feel will only make you feel worse.

Start practicing these techniques every day to learn how to survive any tough times. Always remember to love yourself through the process! :))
