why you should filter your vocabulary

The vocabulary we use on a daily basis isn’t something fleetingly simple, even though you have been (most probably) told that you’re too sensitive if you have ever expressed that a particular word is offensive.

You’re not exaggerating. Words do have their major impact, and the fact that offensive vocabulary is often disguised underneath sarcasm reflects nothing other than the immense amount of ignorance enveloping us. This basically means that several forms of discrimination and bullying have completely crept into every shred of our culture in a way it became absolutely normalized –sometimes people couldn’t even sense that something is wrong.

If you ever focus throughout one single day on the words that you casually hear, you’ll realize that common sense is non-existent in a disastrous way. Starting from random conversations to ads flagrantly shown everywhere –it is sickening.

For instance, people do need to stop turning everything into a joke, including making fun of those who stand out and tell you that your ‘joke’ wasn’t funny at all (for god’s sake, stop saying that it was dark humor). Jokes based on racism, ableism, sexism or any form of discrimination and prejudice are simply disgusting offensive words.

The ‘take it easy’ culture is pulling all of us into hell. This laid-back attitude normalized lots of unaccepted acts and brainwashed too many people into believing that it’s okay to be a rude obnoxious person.

This laid-back attitude in such issues shouldn’t be tolerated at all. A mere offensive sexist joke could morph into a crime, and that’s why feminists, for example, are told that they are overreacting and totally not fun at parties –we couldn’t find the funny part in depriving someone of their rights and feeling that we are in danger 24/7. Totally not fun.

Filter your language, it’s the simplest yet most vital acts of stepping into a humane life.

Please, take a moment to educate yourself. It is okay to recover and learn (taking into consideration that we live in a barely educated atmosphere). And no, you are totally not a hypocrite when you update and fix your mindset.
